Our story

Broadway Medical Centre has been caring for the Dunedin community since 1965. What began as a small neighbourhood general practice has grown over the decades into a place woven into the lives of generations of patients and whānau.

Many of our patients remember coming to Broadway as children, and now bring their own families through our doors. Others have found us more recently, but share the same experience — care that feels personal, consistent, and grounded in trust.

“They’ve looked after our family for years — they know us, and that really matters.”

“You feel listened to here. You’re not just another appointment.”

In its early years, Broadway reflected the traditional GP model of the time — a small team caring for a close-knit community. Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, the practice grew alongside Dunedin, welcoming new clinicians, expanding services, and adapting to the changing needs of patients. By the 1990s, Broadway had become a well-established multi‑doctor practice, embracing a more team-based approach to care.

In 2000, the practice moved to its current location, strengthening its foundations and positioning it for continued growth.

Since then, Broadway has continued to evolve — becoming a multidisciplinary medical centre offering a wide range of services alongside general practice care. While the way we deliver care has developed, our purpose has remained constant: to support the health and wellbeing of our community in a way that is respectful, inclusive, and responsive.

Today, we recognise that good healthcare means different things to different people. We are committed to delivering care that reflects the needs of our diverse community, and to working in a way that supports equity, partnership, and better outcomes for all — including Māori and Pacific peoples.

We continue to honour the relationships that have shaped our history, while looking forward — combining over 60 years of community care with a focus on innovative, personalised healthcare for the future.

Broadway today

We listen to our patients as we look to the future, we’re continuing to evolve — improving how you access care, strengthening our team, and using the right tools and technology to support better outcomes.

That is why we have launched our Broadway Express Clinic. It offers same-day care for an urgent concern — so you can be seen when you need to be seen, by the team that knows you.

We know that when you need care, you need it at the right time — which is why we offer sameday appointments for urgent needs, so we can see you when you need to be seen, not days later. At the same time, we continue to support ongoing and preventative care, helping you stay well for the long term.

Our approach is simple:

“Same day care from the team that knows you.”

“Personalised care that stays with you.”

We have also implemented the new Patient portal Well to replace ManageMyHealth
